Hi Bert,

Love your comment about Elluminate life being open. I think the online backchannel does give participants the opportunity to comment in ways they would not in a F2F classroom or meeting. First, it can really be stream of consciousness because you don't have to interrupt to get your point made. Second, you can have a conversation going in tandem with the presenter. For many who are experienced multi-taskers, it keeps them engaged more that just passive listening. Thanks for your comments. And keep on Elluminating!

amber i would never tell you that you are anything less than an individual sliver of ice falling amongst literally billions of other slivers of ice, and that you should somehow take comfort from this fact. you are exactly no more than a particle of substance amongst billions of trillions past and present on a snowy canadian landscape.... though i'm not big on those little winky faces, you can imagine i was smiling and had one finger laying against the side of my nose when i wrote that.

Haha. I loved the video. It's hard to imagine what it would be like to be a student now, and to have that technological background, and not know what it was like not to have that available to you. I know that this was mocking to prove a point, but could really be the reality for future students.
Oh, and Bert, are you trying to tell me that I'm not an individual snowflake? This hurts.

I like how you focus on big ideas rather than specifics. Those will change but the big concepts of identity, connections and communication are timeless. The technology simply enables and amplifies these ideas.

Bert,

I'd say this is the same discussion that's been around for a long time regarding first impressions. Advice to guys to cut their hair or to women to avoid overly provocative clothing. This isn't to say it's right, but I would argue a reality. I don't think it necessarily means that an employer or anyone is narrow minded but the reality is that when an employer is faced with choosing between a number of applicants, often it's an easy way to dismiss potential employees. I wouldn't dismiss them as being anything more than busy in many cases.

I also agree that a single indiscretion may not have that kind of impact but I was trying to show that most of those who post inappropriate photos post more than one and also have no idea they are showing the world. We all have things in our lives that should be kept private. Knowing the rules and ins and outs of online spaces, helps them make better decisions. I'd venture to guess the folks in the examples I showed have no idea how stuff works.
